After meeting with my surgical oncologist to schedule my surgery, I stopped by the Hudgens Center for Art to see my two images that were accepted into the 13th Annual Juried Member Exhibition in Duluth, Georgia.
It had been a very stressful week and I was looking forward to seeing my two images, as well as the other art in the gallery. I was excited to have been chosen to be included in the annual exhibit, my first time being in a gallery at the Hudgens Center.
When my wife and I arrived after the opening reception, I noticed a ribbon next to my image on the other side of the gallery. As I approached my image, I realized it was a first place ribbon. I was shocked to discover that I was the first pace winner of the show, not just for photography. This was a multi-media exhibition with mostly paintings and 3D art. I did not expect that a photograph stood a chance in a multi-media galley exhibition.
The juror, Mike Brown, had the follow remarks about my image, “First Place. Jurors Choice. Chris Anderson Day/Night in Paris,
This photo had such a strong narrative captured in a candid moment through its composition. It almost appeared staged as a means to convey a specific idea. I really enjoyed this position as a viewer not knowing whether it was a fact or fiction. “
This was a singe image taken in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris, France on a late June evening walk around with my wife, Mechelle, holding on to my arm to keep me from tripping or running into anyone while I was taking a series of pictures of Parisians enjoying this lovely evening. This image was taken handheld with a Fuji XT-2 with a Fuji 16mm f1/4 lens at f/1.4, 1/60 second, and ISO 1600. Minor adjustments made in Lightroom (shadows and cropping). No AI!
